Smart Aquaculture

Dissolved oxygen, pH, ammonia nitrogen and ORP transmitters feed one controller that drives aerators, feeders and pumps. Remote monitoring cuts manual attendance, and stocking density can be raised under measured water quality.

Overview

A covered-pond farm reads its water continuously. Dissolved oxygen, pH, ammonia nitrogen, ORP and conductivity transmitters sit in the tanks and in the holding rooms, and one controller acts on what they report.

Aerators, feeders, pumps, lighting, fans, heaters, micro-filters and dosing units are switched from the same loop, so the equipment follows the water rather than a fixed timetable. Remote monitoring reduces the people needed on shift, and stocking density can be raised while the measured values stay inside their bands.

Challenges

What the site has to get past before the readings are worth anything.

Oxygen drops at night

Aerators often run on fixed schedules, so a pond can turn before anyone reads the fall in dissolved oxygen.

Feeding without data

Feed is a large recurring cost, yet it is usually dispensed on habit rather than on fish behaviour and water quality.

Manual pond rounds

Staff walk between ponds to read meters and switch equipment by hand, so small faults grow into losses.

System Architecture

Three layers: what is measured, how it travels, and where the rules and alarms live.

Key Benefits

15%+

Lower overall cost

Combined feed, aeration and labour savings at the reference farm were above 15 percent.

Fewer manual rounds

Remote water quality readings reduce the number of physical site checks each day.

Measured feeding

Feed and aeration follow oxygen, pH and ammonia readings instead of a fixed daily routine.
