Plant I/O and Data Integration

Level, pressure and temperature signals from existing plant points are brought onto one I/O layer and reported upward, so control and records share a source.

Overview

Plant data usually sits in several places. A tank level is read on a local gauge, line pressure on a panel instrument, process temperature on a separate transmitter, and each value ends up in a different record. Adding a control action means adding another parallel loop. The result is duplicated hardware and numbers that do not reconcile.

The aim was to put measurement and I/O on one rail-mounted layer that sits between the field devices and the gateway. Existing sensors keep their place; their signals are collected once, then published north. Configuration should be modular, so a point can be added without rebuilding the panel.

Challenges

Values in different places

A tank level on a local gauge, line pressure on a panel instrument and process temperature on a separate transmitter each ended up in a different record.

Hardware duplicated

Adding a control action meant adding another parallel loop, and the numbers on the two paths did not reconcile.

Panel rebuilt for one point

New points arrived as panel rework rather than as a modular addition to an existing acquisition layer.

Solution

Field devices report as before. Level, pressure and temperature reach the WE-X240 acquisition layer over the standard wired connection, and the WE-X280 edge gateway converges both the wired segment and any wireless node on the same site.

Wireless devices send their readings through the WES-WIO wireless terminal protocol to the same gateway. From there the combined stream goes over 4G or Ethernet to the WES device management platform, where values are trended and threshold or abnormal-change conditions raise SMS and email notices.
